1. Overview
Sellrbox is a remote company. We have no office, and everyone on the team works from where they live. This policy describes how that works in practice: where and when we work, how we stay in touch, how we keep customer data safe, and the time off and benefits we offer.
It applies to everyone on the team at Black Bear Group LLC, the California company doing business as Sellrbox (“Sellrbox”, “we”, “us”). Where a section applies only to people employed in a particular country, it says so.
2. Where we work
We are fully remote, with no office to commute to and no expectation that anyone relocates. Work from wherever you do your best focused work, as long as you have a reliable internet connection and somewhere you can take a call without being overheard.
Working while you travel is fine. Before you work from another country for an extended period, or move to one, talk to your manager first, because it can change the employment and tax rules that apply to you.
3. Working hours and time zones
Our team spans time zones in the Americas and Asia, so we do not keep one shared nine-to-five. You set a schedule that works for you and your team, and you own the outcomes rather than the hours.
We do ask for a few hours each working day that overlap with the people you work with most closely, so questions get answered and meetings can happen without anyone working at midnight. Keep your calendar and working hours up to date, so teammates in other time zones know when to expect you.
4. How we communicate
Remote work runs on writing. We default to asynchronous communication: a clear written message that someone can act on hours later beats a meeting that has to fit everyone's calendar.
- Write it down: decisions, plans and handoffs live in writing, so nobody has to have been in the room.
- Meet with purpose: meetings have an agenda, the right people and a written outcome, and we cancel the ones that no longer need to happen.
- Respect off-hours: a message sent outside someone's working hours can wait for their morning. Nobody is expected to reply at night or on days off.
- Say when you are away: set your status when you are offline, out sick or on leave.
5. Equipment and home office
Everyone on the team gets a $2,000 home office allowance to set up a workspace that supports focused work: a desk, a chair, a monitor, or whatever makes the difference for you.
Separately, we reimburse the necessary expenses of doing your job remotely, such as a reasonable share of your internet and phone costs, wherever local law requires it, as California law does.
6. Security and confidentiality
Our customers trust us with access to their Amazon advertising accounts and their business data, and working remotely means that trust travels with every laptop. Everyone on the team is expected to:
- use a password manager, and turn on two-factor authentication for every work account that supports it;
- keep devices used for work updated, screen-locked and encrypted;
- keep customer and company data in company-approved tools, never in personal accounts or unapproved apps;
- take care with customer information in public places, including screens and calls that others can see or hear;
- report a lost device, a suspicious message or a possible security incident right away, even when unsure.
What you learn about our customers and our business stays confidential, during your time with us and after it.
7. Time off
Rest is part of doing good work, and we want people to use their time off. Everyone on the team, in every country, gets:
- 20 paid time off days a year: to recharge, travel or take care of life.
- 10 holidays a year: observe the US public holidays, or swap in the ones that matter where you live.
- Unlimited sick days: take the time you need to rest and recover, without using your paid time off.
- 12 weeks of family leave: to bond with a new child, whether biological or adopted.
Let your team know about planned time off as early as you reasonably can, and set your status while you are away.
8. Benefits for US employees
Team members employed in the United States also receive:
- Health, dental and vision insurance: Sellrbox covers 100% of the premium for employees and 90% for their families.
- 401(k): a retirement account to invest in your future. We do not currently match contributions.
- Life insurance: coverage that helps care for your family and loved ones.
Outside the United States, benefits follow local practice and law, and we set out in writing what applies to you when you join.
9. Meeting in person
Once a year the whole team travels to meet in person at our annual retreat. It is where we plan the year ahead, celebrate the one behind us, and get to know each other beyond a video call.
10. A respectful workplace
Sellrbox is an equal opportunity employer. We hire, pay and promote based on the work, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, pregnancy, veteran or military status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Harassment and discrimination are not tolerated anywhere we work together: in meetings, in chat, in email or at the retreat. If something is wrong, raise it with your manager or directly with the founders. We look into every concern promptly, and we do not retaliate against anyone for raising one in good faith.
11. About this policy
This page describes how we work today. It is not an employment contract, and it does not change the terms of anyone's employment or engagement. Where the law where you work gives you more than this policy does, the law applies.
We update this policy as the team grows; the “last updated” date at the top tells you when we last did. Questions about it are welcome at hello@sellrbox.com.
